Regency P65 Details

Decompress as you step aboard the Regency Yachts P65. Designed with a larger beam than most yachts in its class, and also considerably heavier, she rides comfortable and smooth in a seaway. The extra foot worked into the design coupled with the intelligent layout in the interior has resulted in one of the most luxurious motor yachts in the 60-to-70 foot range on the market today. Meant for owners interested in extended cruising from Alaska to the Caribbean and beyond, the Regency P65 is virtually loaded with all of the options and amenities possible to fit on a yacht. Captain Steve Larivee of BoatTest.com described the P65, "For people wanting a family cruising vessel, for operation far from home, we think the Regency P65 should be considered because of her attention to important mechanical details and her equipment list. She is far better equipped than most trawler types we see, and certainly more so than the lower-priced vessels coming out of Europe."

The hull of the P65 is constructed with both longitudinal and fiberglass stringers that are laminated right to the hull. With the divinycell PVC coring used above the waterline and on the decks and other compartments, the results is a strong, durable hull that will perform well in adverse conditions. And while the hull construction is certainly a major undertaking, the smaller details of the P65 are what make it unique. For example, the glasswork that lines the salon or shine into the lower deck staterooms is smooth and clear and connects to the hull like its a part of it. Even the sealant used to connect the deck to the hull is of the highest quality possible in the industry.

The flybridge is undoubtedly the entertaining centerpiece aboard the P65 as it features large, comfortable spaces and lots of opportunity for entertaining. While most flybridge yachts in this class have a wetbar on the bridge, the P65 has a miniature galley complete with granite countertops, a sink, refrigerator, hot/cold running water, extra storage space, and an overhead television. A barbecue grill with propane tank is placed aft for grilling. With lots of seating options and the ability to cook and serve your guests right on the bridge, this is a perfect place to spend the majority of your day at sea.

The interior of the Regency P65 is nothing short of lavishness. Seven-foot high ceilings give you the feeling of a much larger space inside and the layout of the deck is generally very open. Large windows line the salon allowing lots of natural light to enter this space. The walnut veneer on the bulkheads and cabinetry is stunning and ties the entire boat together from an aesthetic standpoint. An L-shaped leather with an aft-facing short end, a glass coffee table, and woodgrain end table is placed portside, while starboard are two comfortable, soft leather chairs. Popular with the American market, the galley is placed just aft of the wheel house which means whoever is cooking gets to still be a part of the conversation. The galley features plenty of easily cleaned granite countertops, top-of-the-line appliances, a four-burner induction cooktop, an oven, a refrigerator and two drawer freezers, a microwave, a garbage disposal and a trash compactor.

The master suite runs the entire beam of the boat which means there is plenty of room for the large king-sized berth, night stands on both sides, and storage beneath the bed. A large flatscreen lines the wall which makes a perfect spot to relax in the evenings and enjoy a movie. Owners will appreciate the abundance of drawers and cabinetry for storage, another example as to how the designers meant for the P65 to be comfortable during extended cruises. The VIP stateroom is placed in the bow which offers some privacy between the VIP and master stateroom. It boasts a queen-sized island berth including hanging lockers, storage cabinets, and an entertainment system. Guests will also enjoy the ensuite access to the guest head which is almost as luxurious as the master.

Powered with twin Volvo D13 900HP diesel engines (or the optional Cat 12.9 1000HP engines), the P65 can expect to cruise at between 15 and 17 knots, but those on extended trips will likely be at the 10-12 knot range. Fuel burn is what you would expect at a boat of this size and weight. While most 60-foot yachts in this class are typically lighter and faster, they do not have the same construction strength or comfort features found on the Regency P65, making it a favorite choice of long distance cruising yacht owners.
