2008 Bruckmann 50 MKII

Introducing the Bruckmann 50 MKII, Fly Away. A stunning motorsailer from the drawing board of Mark Ellis and built by Bruckmann in 2008, she is a near-perfect embodiment of the form. Balancing the keel and hull shape of a legitimate sailboat with the needs of a hull that will motor well is the yacht designer's test that is not always met with applause. The Bruckmann 50 MKII has met the mark.

Economical cruising under power, sail or both means that coastal cruising or ocean passage-making are achievable. An arrangement that will comfortably sleep 4, 6 or 8, as well as a galley and indoor / outdoor space to support the crew.

Powered by the upsized optional John Deere 6068TFM75 inboard engine, it delivers 200 horsepower vs the standard 150 hp, allowing for a cruising speed of 8.5 knots at 1960 RPM.

The current owners have cruised New England to the Bahamas and have undertaken annual upgrades and improvements. The boat has been stored and maintained at Safe Harbor Great Island Boatyard (Harpswell, Maine) and Safe Harbor Jamestown Boatyard (Jamestown, Rhode Island).

Bruckmann build quality and craftsmanship abounds throughout the boat. Handlaid foam cored fiberglass hull to the foam cored deck; mahogany sole to the Herreshoff interior with mahogany trim; thoughtful aft cockpit layout for functional sailing to the ergonomic interior helm for offshore watchstanding or foul weather helming; her machinery spaces and electrical distribution panel are the highest level of craftsmanship. Fly Away turns up aces in every department.

Comfort, elegance and performance align aboard Fly Away.

Manufacturer's Description

A more powerful and lengthened version of the acclaimed Bruckmann 50 pilothouse cruising sloop, the Bruckmann 50 MK II features an integral stern platform extending the hull length, combined with the added power of the optional 200 HP John Deere engine. An easy 10 knot cruising speed was achieved during sea trials at an impressively low fuel consumption of under 5 GPH. The hull extension adds convenient stowage for an inflatable dinghy or scuba gear and provides a broad platform for boarding and swimming access.

The Bruckmann 50, designed by Mark Ellis, has been highly praised for its sailing ability and handsome appearance as well as for its functional and expansive accommodations. It has proven to be, first and foremost, a swift and balanced bluewater sailer with the added advantages of excellent speed under power and amenities far beyond those found on most sailing cruisers. Cruising comfort aboard the Bruckmann 50 is greatly enhanced by a large pilothouse which encloses an airy salon and protects a second helm station from the elements.

At Bruckmann, each yacht can be tailored to the specific requirements of her owner, offering a truly personalized expression of their tastes and experiences. Built in Canada, just outside of Toronto, we offer our clientele the opportunity to be involved in any or all stages of construction, from hull lay-up to launch.

Walking into the Bruckmann 50 from the stern, one is immediately struck by the size of the cockpit and the visibility in the main salon. No more descending steep stairs into a dark cavernous interior. The main salon is bright and open, providing excellent ventilation and panoramic visibility. The inside steering station is surrounded by the best in today's navigational equipment and engine instrumentation, including an ample chart table. Steering from the inside station during adverse conditions is a delight. The spacious cockpit and main salon dining areas offer expansive entertaining possibilities, with dinner party seating for four at each table.

The library/den is a truly unique feature. This versatile area can be equipped with a writing/computer desk, television, bar, or even a built in fireplace. A love seat can also serve as a comfortable pull out bunk, creating a third stateroom when additional guests arrive.

Modern appliances, such as a built-in microwave and top/front access refrigeration, accentuate the open layout of the galley. The solid surface countertops offer ample work surface, and due to the raised salon, the galley remains well lit under almost all conditions. The interior of the Bruckmann 50, as with all Bruckmann yachts, showcases the Company's exceptional quality and attention to detail.

The Bruckmann 50 shows handsome lines and great performance under both sail and power, intrinsic qualities that will assure this yacht's appeal for a very long time to come. The hull shape of the Bruckmann 50 features a long waterline with a balanced distribution of underwater volume. This, coupled with a long flat run aft enables the yacht to enjoy high speeds under both sail and power.

The Bruckmann 50 has advantages under power superior to a similar sized trawler, yet can sail better than many cruising sailboats. Reaching in approximately 18 knots of breeze, you will be rewarded with speeds approaching 10 knots. The occasional use of both sail and power deliver speed, comfort, and a degree of economics previously unrealized.
