As stated above the Dehler 42 is extremely flexible, almost chameleon-like as it can change from a touring yacht to a performance cruiser to a full-fledged regatta racer. The performance can be adapted to your preferred style of sailing. Taking cues from their siblings Hanse Yachts, Dehler also focuses on easy sailing and comfort. For example, the German Mainsheet System: both ends of the mainsheet are taken to separate winches. Now the sheet is within immediate reach on each side of the cockpit allowing you to maintain full control of the mainsail without leaving the helm.

The exterior boasts classic, elegant lines and a clean-cut deck space that helps with ease of movement during cruising. All winches, cleats, rollers, and other exterior features are intelligently placed or hidden so that everything is closeby if needed, yet out of the way when enjoying the outdoors. A few of the exterior features include:

• Y-spoke wheels and traveler for exceptional sailing
• Teak-covered side-decks with genoa tracks adjustable from the cockpit
• Operable windows for excellent ventilation indoors
• An electric anchor with remote control

The interior of the Dehler 42 is designed and appointed to make you feel right at home. When you build a new Dehler sailboat, you get to choose your color palette as well as what wood type you would like your cabinets, doors, etc. The overhead hatches and windows allow fresh air and indirect sunlight to fill the cabin. Dehler has also maximized space in the salon and galley by utilizing distinct curves, shapes, and custom storage spaces. A few of the interior features on the 42 include:

• A cleverly hidden pull-out wine bar
• A pedastal table that serves as both a dining table and a lounge space when lowered 
• A chart table that can be shifted to increase seating space or create an additional sleeping bunk
• Large two-part sink that when covered becomes extra counter space
• A wooden stove cover that doubles as a cutting board
• A chaise lounge that folds up for relaxing or reading

For sleeping accommodations, the Dehler 42 can have either a four or six person layout with one or two wet cells. The standard layout includes a master cabin, a spacious aft cabin placed starboard, and a large storage room portside. As an option, that storage area can be converted to an additional cabin.
