Overview 

The Marine Inboard Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, servicing, diagnosing, repairing, and overhauling inboard marine   engines (gas and diesel) and associated mechanical, electrical, and propulsion systems aboard vessels (boats, yachts, workboats, etc.). The role demands technical skill, mechanical aptitude, safety awareness, and attention to detail to ensure vessels are seaworthy, reliable, and compliant with company and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

· Diagnose mechanical, fuel, cooling, lubrication, and exhaust system problems in marine gas and diesel inboard engines; troubleshoot performance issues, malfunctions, and failures.

· Perform engine repairs, routine (oil and fluid changes, filter replacement, belt/hoses inspection, cooling system maintenance), and preventative maintenance on all inboard engines and auxiliary systems.

· Repair or replace defective engine components, fuel systems. Electrical systems, transmissions/gear cases, and propulsion   components specific to marine vessels.

· Keep detailed service and maintenance records for each vessel/equipment serviced, including parts replaced, work performed,   and maintenance history.

· Work safely and follow all marine-industry safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies pertaining to marine vessel maintenance and repair.

· Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

· 2-5 years’ experience working on inboard marine engines (gasoline and diesel), with demonstrated ability to diagnose, repair, and maintain engine and propulsion systems. 

· Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of marine-specific systems (engine, fuel, cooling, exhaust, drive/shaft, hydraulics, etc.).

· Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and parts catalogs.

· Physical ability to perform moderately strenuous work, lift heavy parts, standing/kneeling/crawling, working in varied conditions (wet, oily, tight spaces, outdoor/marina environment).

· Valid driver’s license and insurance.

Preferred Skills

· Formal marine-mechanic certification, or completion of accredited marine-mechanic/apprenticeship program.

· Experience with both gasoline and diesel inboard engines, as well as familiarity with marine electrical, hydraulic or steering systems, and propulsion installation/overhaul.

· Ability to perform or assist with more advanced vessel or system work (e.g., hull work, plumbing, electrical systems, fiberglass/gelcoat repairs, system installations, winterization/commissioning, etc.).

· Flexibility to work non-standard hours when needed (e.g., sea trials, launch/haul out, emergency repairs).

Overview 

The Marine Outboard Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, diagnosis, repair, and overhaul of outboard marine engines and   related propulsion, electrical, fuel, and mechanical systems on vessels. This role ensures that all boats and watercraft maintained by Seattle Yachts Service run safely, reliably, and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

· Perform routine maintenance and service on outboard engines: oil and filter changes, gearcase oil changes, water-pump service, spark plug replacement, fuel system maintenance, timing belt / ignition maintenance, and other periodic service required per manufacturer recommendations. 

· Diagnosing engine problems and malfunctions — fuel system issues, ignition/electrical problems, overheating, cooling or water-pump failures, gearcase issues, propeller or shaft problems, exhaust or tilt/trim problems, or other mechanical failures common to outboard engines. 

· Perform repairs: repair or replace outboard powerheads, gearcases, lower units; service or replace water-pumps, seals, gaskets, fuel and exhaust systems; repair or replace steering/tilt/trim units; handle wiring, controls, and electrical system maintenance as needed. 

· Maintain records of all maintenance, repairs, parts replaced/used, work hours, and service history for each outboard motor or vessel serviced — for internal tracking and customer accountability. 

· Work safely in marine environments: follow safety protocols for fuel, water, exhaust, electrical, and environmental hazard handling; use required PPE; ensure compliance with all relevant marine regulations and company safety standards.

· Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

· 2-5 years of experience working on outboard motors, maintenance, repair, teardown/rebuild, and diagnostics.

· Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of marine-specific systems: engines, gear cases/lower units, fuel and exhaust, water-cooling systems, steering/tilt/trim, propellers, electrical/ignition systems, and hydraulic/drive components specific to outboard applications.

· Valid driver’s license and insurance.

Preferred Skills

· Certification from recognized marine-or diesel-engine manufacturer (or marine-mechanic certification program).

· Experience with a variety of outboard brands, models, and power ranges (small outboards up to large horsepower units), including familiarity with both 2-stroke and 4-stroke systems, EFI/fuel-injection, carbureted outboards, and gear-case/lower-unit rebuilds.

· Ability or willingness to assist with broader boat maintenance tasks – hydraulic systems, steering/trim systems, electrical wiring or marine-electrical troubleshooting, and general vessel maintenance (plumbing, hull inspections, winterization, etc.) as needed.

Overview 

The Marine Outfitter role involves the hands-on installation and repair of essential marine systems, covering mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical work. You will provide critical support in our service yard by diagnosing technical issues and executing repairs that meet stringent maritime regulations.

Key Responsibilities

· Troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing complex marine systems, including propulsion (inboard/outboard), pressurized   freshwater, and hydraulic steering/trim components.

· Installing and servicing 12V/24V DC and 120V AC electrical systems, including battery banks, bilge pumps, and integrated   navigation/communication electronics.

· Executing scheduled service intervals such as oil and filter changes, cooling system flushes, and comprehensive   winterization/summarization protocols.

· Mounting and aligning engines, installing through-hull fittings, and configuring fuel delivery systems while strictly adhering to ABYC and manufacturer safety standards.

· Maintaining accurate records of labor and parts utilized and providing technical feedback to service advisors to ensure   customers are updated on repair progress.

· Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

· 2-5 years hands-on experience with boats, marine engines (outboard, inboard, stern drive, etc.), marine systems (fuel, water, exhaust, electrical, plumbing), or previous outfitting / boat-building work.

· Ability to read technical drawings, hull plans, wiring diagrams, mechanical schematics and execute installation accurately.

· Physical ability to perform labor-intensive work: lifting and moving heavy parts/engines, bending, kneeling, confined-space work, working on docks or in boat-building sheds, sometimes in harsh or slippery conditions.

· Mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to follow specifications precisely.

· Drivers license required

Preferred Skills

· Prior experience working in a marine-outfitting shop, boatyard, boat-building facility, or similar setting.

· Familiarity with marine safety, fuel/exhaust/water/waste systems, marine wiring/electrical standards, and marine hardware installation guidelines.

· Basic knowledge of marine surveys, sea-trial procedures, system testing, or maintenance inspections.

· Comfortable working on multiple hull types (fiberglass, aluminum, wood) and adapting techniques accordingly.

Overview 

The Marine Electrician is responsible for the   installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of all electrical and electronic systems aboard marine vessels, including wiring, power distribution, lighting, navigation, communication, generator and battery   systems, controls, and other shipboard electrical components. This role helps ensure that company-owned or customer vessels are safe, functional, and compliant with marine electrical and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

· Install, inspect, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, panels, distribution systems, lighting systems, navigation electronics, communication and instrumentation systems, power generation and battery systems aboard 12v/24v/120v/240v vessels. 

· Troubleshoot electrical faults — diagnose malfunctioning circuits, shorts, generator or inverter issues, battery or power-system problems, control system failures, lighting/electronics issues, and perform appropriate repairs or replacements. 

· Perform testing and verification of electrical systems after repair or installation, use meters, test equipment, and diagnostic tools to check voltage, continuity, insulation resistance, functionality of circuits, control systems and safety systems. 

· Maintain documentation and records for all   electrical work performed: wiring diagrams, maintenance logs, repair history, parts used, testing results, compliance checks, and regulatory documentation.   

· Provide technical support and advice on electrical system upgrades, retrofits (e.g., new electronics, navigation gear, battery systems, power management), and carry out installations or refurbishments as needed.

Required Skills

· At least 2-5 years experience with marine electrical or marine-installed electrical/electronic systems — wiring, AC/DC power systems,   generators/inverters/battery systems, navigation/communication electronics,   lighting, power distribution, wiring harnesses, etc. 

· Strong understanding of electrical theory (single-phase and three-phase where applicable), ability to read and interpret blueprints/schematics/wiring diagrams, and knowledge of relevant marine electrical standards and regulations (e.g. safe wiring practices, corrosion/water-resistance, grounding, code compliance, etc.). 

· Problem-solving skills and attention to detail, ability to troubleshoot faults, isolate issues, perform repairs safely, and verify correct system operation. 

· Physical ability to work in varied marine environments: dockside, on vessels, in wet or confined spaces; exposure to water, salt, moisture, ability to work safely and use PPE as needed.

Preferred Skills

· Certification in marine-electric work, or completion of a marine-electrician apprenticeship or trade program.

· Experience with installation or maintenance of modern marine electronics: navigation systems, communication systems, inverters, battery-management systems, generator systems, AC/DC conversion, power distribution panels, automation/control   systems. 

· Familiarity with marine-industry regulatory standards and classification society guidelines (e.g., safe electrical installation practices, grounding/bonding, corrosion protection, wiring harness standards, pollution/environmental compliance), or willingness to learn and stay updated. 

· Ability or willingness to perform occasional additional maintenance or mechanical duties as required (e.g., assisting with mechanical repairs, general boat maintenance, or refit work) – useful in a smaller crew / multi-skill shop environment.

· Flexibility with scheduling – may be required for dock-out, on-water trials, weekend or evening work, especially for installations, commissioning, or urgent repairs.
